The Cairns Show Association wishes to advise that The Auto Spectacular will not be held this year

2017 Cairns Show

The Show is over for another year! This year we were blessed with beautiful weather accross all 3 days. Attendendance was just over 70,000 people and  by what we heard here in the office all had a great time! A big 'Thank You' to all Volunteers, Committee Members and Staff and a 'Welcome' to those who have completed their first Show! A special big shout out to Izzy Botha who took on the Chief Steward's job in Horticulture and Jesse Argent who stepped into the Chief Steward's role in Poultry. Both big jobs, especially for the un-initiated and we look forward to hearing their feedback over the coming weeks.

Mikayla Jade Trick Rider joined the entertainment on the Main Arena and she and her 2 horses, Maverick and Phoenix wowed the crowd with their shows. Mikayla also performed the National Anthem at the Opening Ceremony on Friday while standing atop her horses. New to the Main Arena this year was Walter Whip and the Flames joining regulars Showtime FMX and the Trackskill V8 Utes.

A great time was again had at the Cairns Regional Council Community Stage under the watchful eye of Glenda McAuliffe. Thanks and congratulations to all performers, supporters and volunteers! The Main Stage in the Main Arena also hosted Community and School Groups and what performances they put on for us all! Well done, thank you and congratulations to you all!

Seven Cairns Heritage Park this year celebrated it's 20th year and continues to be a popular attraction every day. Radical Reptile added to their display this year with a 'Creepy Crawly' section which proved to be very popular. Due to health reasons our regular Blacksmith, Noel Giles, was unable to attend. We thank him for his many years of involvement with the Show and wish him all the best in his retirement. Alex Byrne, a local Blacksmith who displays  at the Port Douglas Markets was happy to jump on board at short notice and display his skills.

This year's 'What's On' Marquee hosted TAFE Queensland and Department of Education and Training on Wednesday and Thursday. They provided Show Goer's the ultimate chill out zone. Thay had the TAFE Qld Big Basketball Battle, DJ, beanbags, bubble makers and VR goggles. The Wearable Art competition also took part on the Thursday afternoon to round out 2 days of fantastic entertainment. Friday saw Cultural Dancers take over the space with 'Lower Coastal Yudinja'under 10's performing traditional dances and 'Flash Mob', an older teenage/young adult group performing an array of more modern Indigenous dances.

The new ride in Sideshow Alley this year was 'The Beast'. It just looked like a giant pendulum swinging ....how bad could it be??? Well, a ride that swings up to 20 people 45 metres into the air at speeds up to 100km/h with a force of 3G's on the body!! I have no idea how bad it was, I wasn't getting on it!!!!
