Inaugural Cairns Regional Barista Competition

The Cairns Show Association is delighted to announce that the Cairns Regional Barista Competition will once again be held during Cairns Show 2010.

The first Cairns Regional Barista Competition was held at the 2009 Cairns Show - showcasing and promoting the expertise, creativity and talent of top local baristas in the art of brewing and serving specialty coffee.

LittleLeo_LogoCo-organised by the Cairns Show Association and the Australasian Specialty Coffee Association (AASCA), the event  was a hugh success with competitors from Cairns local cafes eager to win the title of Cairns Best Barista.

The winners of the 2009  Inaugural Cairns Regional Barista Competition were:

 

1ST    Nigel Giacomi from Coffee Plus with 626.5 points

2ND   Ainsley White from Bang Espresso with 609.5 points

3RD   Erol Kaplan from Bang Espresso with 607 points

4TH   Caz McChucheon from Twelve BC with 508 points

5TH   Dee Elcoate from Gloria Jeans with 494.5 points


Nigel Giacomi won an automatic place to represent the Cairns Region and compete in the Queensland Championships to be held in Brisbane on December 12, 2009,  where if successful Nigel with then progress to the Australian and World Championships.

Congratulations to all the competitions who enter the Cairns Regional Barista competition, the standard set for our first competition was extremely high and we are looking forward to our 2010 competition.
