Inaugural Hastings Deering Scarecrow Competition
For the first time the 2011 Cairns Show is holding a Scarecrow Competition and everyone is invited to take part.
Join in the fun and enter either as a group or as an individual with two class options available Traditional and Open. There are no age limitations!
Be sure to visit the Horticulture Pavilion on Friday 24th July at 9.30 to find out whose scarecrow will win.
Come along and view this years school entrants in the Ergon Energy Science and Technology Display in the Heritage Area. Then make your way to the Circus Tent on Friday 22nd July to see the Surfing Scientist, Ruben Meerman!
The Inaugural Cairns Show Indigenous Arts Competition has been well supported with over 200 art works entered for judging. Special guest judges Brian Robinson and Shirley Hollingsworth will commence judging on Wednesday 20th July at 10.30 am.
Brian is a multi - skilled contemporary artist, whose practice includes painting, printmaking, sculpture and design. His graphic style combines his Torres Strait Islander heritage with a strong passion for experimentation, in theoretical approach and medium, as well as crossing the boundaries between reality and fantasy.
Shirley Hollingsworth is a well know local artist from the Tjapukai Gallery.
